In
January, 2007, soloists
from the Pacific Boychoir will provide the soprano and alto solo parts
for Bach's
New Year's cantatas with the American Bach Soloists and American
Bach Choir.
In
August, 2006, members
of the Pacific Boychoir traveled to Brasil to join the Youth Orchestra
of the Americas and the UC Berkeley Chamber Chorus for performances
of Bach's St Matthew Passion.
In May, 2006,
the choir school boys
performed and recorded two of Bach's masses, G Major and G minor. This
recording is scheduled to be released at the end of 2006.
In
May, 2006, the Pacific
Boychoir joined the American Bach Soloists for four performances of
Bach's St Matthew Passion.
On
April 9, 2005,the Troubadors
performed the entire Pergolesi Stabat Mater, as well as Mozart's Te
Deum and Michael Haydn's rarely-heard Anima Nostra.
On June 5, 2004 the
Troubadors performed Bach 150 for the first time in America as Bach
would have heard it: with period instruments and boys' voices (soprano
as well as alto) at Baroque pitch. The music from this concert is now
available from Titanic Records on the Troubadors' Cantate CD.
Below are some early music audio samples:
last movement of
Bach's Cantata 150
Julian Abelskamp (soprano) performing Mozart's
Ergo Interest/Quaere Superna
Adam Kutny (alto) singing Fac ut portem
from Pergolesi's Stabat Mater
Jacob Wilson singing Vidit suum from
Pergolesi's Stabat Mater
The
Troubadors are equally at home
singing in unison, two, three, four, five and six parts. Repertoire
encompasses pieces from a wide variety musical styles and periods. The
boys are trained what it means to sing stylistically, even if, or especially
when, the styles differ drastically. Being able to properly interpret
a piece of music is a cornerstone of the Troubadors' ability. In the
past, the Troubadors have sung pieces from Benjamin Britten, Felix Mendelssohn,
J.S. Bach, Mahler, Wagner, Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, and Mozart, to name
a few
